I implore you to commit yourself to be in pursuit of excellence in one or more areas of your life! Commit to yourself that you will choose to focus, do your best, learn from mistakes, and draw a hardline between taking positive action and not. Focus and you will achieve. -TEC Coach, Carson McQuarrie
With Coach Carson McQuarrie’s advice from his article The Power of Positive Focus in Sport & Life, we have put together three steps and elements that will help you create a cycling mantra that will motivate you to keep pushing forward while out on the road.
1. Make it a “YOU” statement.
Your choice of words matters. There is more power in using “you” rather than “I”. This boosts your ability to control your thoughts, feelings, and actions.
2. Shorter is better.
It is best to keep it short. You want your mantra to be quick to recall with the ability to keep with the rhythm of your strokes.
3. Add some stoke.
Make sure to fill in the blanks with some energy. Whether you need speed, power, or confidence it is important to verbalize it for yourself.
